About THE ARTIST

Alexis Marino is an artist and illustrator working in her native city, New York. Having always been fascinated by the sights and sounds of her home, she finds inspiration in often overlooked vignettes and spent many years drawing en plein air. At the end of 2019, she was selected to be an artist in residence at the Chateau Orquevaux in France. In 2020, Alexis began the Pet Portrait Project, a commission-based series that began with one painting and, over the course of a year, saw the completion of 20 commissioned portraits. In 2021, Alexis returned to the Chateau Orquevaux residency. During her stay, she began focusing on making larger pieces and delved into surrealistic subject matter. In 2023, she began using anatomy books as well as her own nature reference to draw complex, humanistic forms in a distilled stage of metamorphosis and transfiguration. She uses BIC pens on BFK printmaking paper.

In 2023, she became a published illustrator for the novel, Bluestone Folklore by Timothy Stoddard.

In between time spent at the easel, she still makes time for long bike rides and working en plein air with local artists.
